Your Home Can Be Your Castle
|
When you walk into a home you can sense immediately if it is the woman's castle. I am not referring to the price or location of the home, but to other indications.
(Castle Tips Included)
The sense of feeling "welcome" as you walk up to a decorated entry and front door of a home, instead of feeling frustrated as you walk through a maze of toys, gardening tools, trash or misplaced items.
The pleasant appearance of order in the household instead of piles of newspapers, magazines, laundry and clutter.
The smell of home-made bread, coffeecake, cookies or the fragrance from flowers and candles, instead of the smell of trash, dirty clothes, pets or a home that has not been cleaned.
The pleasant sounds of soft music, a crackling fire from a fireplace or friendly family conversation, instead of quarrelling and confusion or even a cold, formal house.
Any other evidence that shows a woman has invested her time and energy in caring for her home and family instead of just tolerating them.
A home should be a place where memories are made daily, during the holidays or birthdays, and where a family spends time together, instead of just being a house where people live.
There are times life will be busy and the housework gets behind, the demands of your family may leave you feeling exhausted or perhaps several unexpected things came up throughout the day. In moments like this, it's ok to relax in your castle without guilt, because tomarrow brings a new day and another chance to start working on what is important to you.

Minimize Kitchen Messes
To eliminate messes in the kitchen area throughout the day, I like to prepare extra food items and snacks ahead of time, then store them in the refrigerator for the family members. For example, in large plastic containers place salads, finger foods, burritos, deli meats and cheeses, sandwiches, pasta dishes or small pizzas. This eliminates the messes each family member could make if they prepared it at various times throughout the day.
Throughout the summer months, place the food items & drinks outside on the patio for small children. The items could be placed inside a cooler if it is a hot day.
Keep hot soapy water in the sink for the dirty dishes. Soak them in the water until you have time to wash them. The dishes will be easier to clean at a later time.
Try to clean up messes as soon as they are made. It will be easier to clean the countertops.
Keep a basket on top of the kitchen counter for the miscellanous items that accumulate in the kitchen area. Put everything away at the end of the day.
Keep a dustbuster in the area where soil or messes occur. It will be convenient for a quick clean up.
Keep an all-purpose cleanser in a spray bottle nearby, along with a sponge to clean up counters or cabinets when needed.

| Put your house in order before 8:00A.M. when you start the evening before. You will always be prepared for stop-in guests!

Baskets are a fun way to organize and easy to move to another location. There are several ways to decorate baskets. One option is to put dried flowers on the side of the basket by the handle with ribbons. Try quilting a puffed pillow that shapes the bottom of the basket.
Prioritize theme baskets and keep in convenient locations.
Basket Themes:
Handiwork Basket
Put various projects, books, needles & thread into baskets and place by your favorite sitting chairs. This will make it convenient for you to work on projects.
Inspirational Basket Place books, magazine articles, coffee mug & snacks in a basket. This enables you to move these items to a quiet location when needed.
Bath Accessories Basket Put perfume, lotions, bubble bath & other personal items in a basket. Set it on the floor by the bathtub or on a counter.
Bible Devotions Basket Place a Bible, pen, study book & notepad in a basket and take the children to the park. This will allow the children to have fun while you read and study.
Friendship Basket Plan a picnic and place a lunch, drinks, dishes, tablecloth, flowers & a camera in a basket.
Card Basket It is easy to write letters or a card on your bed, at a desk or out on the patio when stationery, pens, stamps & ink are in a basket.
Baby Basket Prepare a gift basket and fill it with diapers, baby-wipes, clothing, pacifier & bottle for someone who is going to have a baby. This is also something that can be handy for yourself around the house.
Snack Basket Place wrapped snacks for small children in a basket on the table or on the countertop. This makes it convenient for the children and yourself when there is a request for snacks.
